Miguel Maravilla - Panawagan

from Sonic Memories by mediaartscommittee

/

about

This sonic collage confronts the notion that archival work functions only to preserve remnants of the past. Fragments of sound cluster together to form an aural archipelago of a people’s history; from a disembodied documentary narration, to karaoke song selections yearning for home, to the voices of farmers, migrants, colonizers, traitors, freedom fighters.
This music, and the voices which haunt the collective memories of the Filipino people, are active and present reminders of the ongoing trauma, violence, and conflict which rage on in the Philippines today.
