Majiigii is a half sound art, half full sound system based production. The track starts from minimal ambient swells and sounds of nature. Eventually building into a full dynamic track introducing synths, big drums, bass, and familiar traditional vocals. My Inspiration for this track was pulling a story of relevance from my family's experience with 60s scoop. And how the intergenerational effects and removal from our traditional culture still leave lingering feelings on so many of us to this day. I aimed to tell a story of a person in the dark removed from their culture and unsure about their place in the world. With dark ominous pads swelling around them, they continue to pray and listen to the sounds of the elements, waiting for the song to guide them into themselves. As the track progresses more and the beat of the drum and voices of their ancestors begin to sing and guide them, the more they settle into themselves. Eventually out of the darkness, and fully immersed in the sounds that have brought them into unison. There’s an acceptance of who they are and a reclamation of their culture.

Handsome Tiger is an Anishinaabe Métis, North African music producer/dj from Turtle Island, residing in Vancouver BC. His production blends traditional sounds from his culture alongside other Indigenous sounds, interwoven into the contemporary sounds of electronic bass music today. Along with making music for electronic performance and DJing under his moniker, he also composes and works in sound design for film and private commissions. In 2020 he started working with Nagamo Publishing, a curated music database of original compositions from Indigenous composers. This has gained him the access to working with traditional Indigenous vocal & drum sounds and incorporating them into all aspects of his music production.
