about

Project details [song artist statement]
Dream Safely is an experimental sound collage made using a variety of recorded and found sounds, synth music, and digital manipulations. The work is composed as having three parts: (1) ambient intro into the dreamsphere, (2) introspective/mind wandering sequence, and finishes with a (3) deep bass electronic outro, which was made using layered altered and distorted tech recordings with low bassy synth.

Overall, this sound art piece was designed as a longer piece that is meant to accompany a nice “zone out” – whether that be on a solo walk, laying down, or while working on stuff/doing art. Inspired by feelings of disconnection, Dream Safely is a response to the often overwhelming nature of existence, and with a prompt of “self care,” it is also an expression of feeling at peace with existing in the in-betweenness of everything and liminal spaces. The title Dream Safely comes from the incredible mind of Huong Anh Pham.

Artist statement [self]
Kaila Bhullar (she/they) is a multimedia artist and experimental filmmaker. Primarily informed by audiovisual and digitally-based art forms, Bhullar uses art-making as an introspective tool that explores various internal dispositions concerning identity, perception, and their own positioning. As a queer and mixed individual, they are interested in analyzing constructed cultural binaries and norms, using their practice as a vessel to bridge the gaps within the complexities of personal identity and the various factors that affect how we move through our existence. These inquiries into the self and surroundings often manifest as collages of varying forms, audiovisual works, and multimedia installations.
